Song Analysis: "What's Love Got to Do with it"
Performed by Tina Turner
This week's song analysis was on "What's Love Got to Do with it" performed by Tina Turner. What's love got to do with it has a catchy easy to understand beat and riff, and a easy to connect with message, which lead to it's popularity. If you haven't heard this song you've obviously got to be living under a rock because this one really gets your body moving. It's a nice song that you could play at any disco scene and definitely have people instantly understanding it and dancing and singing along after the first verse. The whole message of it is wondering how to deal with strong emotional attachments while being afraid the partner only wants physical short term attraction the fear of being left behind once you present all of your physical beauty and the fallout and aftermath of them leaving afterwards. It is a simple meaning understood by most, hidden underneath the simple and fun loving beats of the music itself. It's running away from and admitting you have strong feelings for the partner again because you fear they will leave and won't love you in the long run, so you hide these feelings under the phrase "what's love got to do with it" to stay close to this partner.
Good review of this song! This song is very nice easy beat and riff to understand. This type of music is not my favorite, but I do not hate it. I agree that many people listen or have heard this song before. I think she refers love as a second hand-emotion to try and disregard the emotions that she may be having.
