Song Analysis: "Stairway to Heaven"
Performed by Led Zepplin
This week's song analysis is on the song "Stairway to Heaven" performed by Led Zepplin, this EIGHT MINUTE long song has been played by many over the four decades its been out. This song is singing about a woman and her materialistic tendencies to buy what she wants, without giving anything back to the world. It has distant verses that correlate all with the sadness and the grief that comes with reconciling the thought that some people only care about their own greed and fortune. Ultimately that's just my take on the song, it sounds like a sad, reminiscent song on the ideas of everyone's personal sins, specifically greed. However, many people believe the song is about drugs, or really, anything. Many agree that there are so many meanings within the song that its hard to pinpoint just exactly whether one is misconstrued or intended in meaning. This confusing existentialism is further induced by the lyrics "Sometimes words have two meanings" which probably refers to the notion that Led Zeppelin is aware the song is vague, and that's probably the point. In the end depending on what answers you are searching for in the moment probably changes the meaning of the song to what you need.
I love your description of this song! I also love that you chose this song to do for your post, it definitely is a great song! It is interesting that it is so long, definitely something that was starting to become more common with 6 to 10 minute songs. I liked that you brought up a few possible meanings to this song, it really brings into perspective how different people can interpret a song.
