Song Analysis: "Deed I do" By Ruth Etting

This week's song analysis was on the song "Deed I do" composed by Fred Rose with lyrics by Walter Hirsch and performed by Ruth Etting. This is considered a nice lovely jazz song and hit the top ten song list in 1927. This song is all about how she loves this person and she always wants to be around him. The song goes as follows "Do I want you? Oh my! Do I! Honey, deed I do!" with the verses going on about why she wants him and why he's "the best." I believe she isn't questioning her love about him at all, she's more stating her love, and beautifying the idea of him in her life. This song is just so soft and loving towards her love interest. The tone of voice she uses in this song is a crooning, loving type. The tone of her voice and of the song just reminds me of falling hard in love with someone and you can't stop thinking about them and all the things they've brought into your life. It's a very sweet love song with an upbeat tone, which I guess there couldn't have been very many of songs like this back in those days since this one had such a high standing in the culture.

  2. What a great love jazz song! I agree that you can really feel her justifying and stating her love for this man. I think her crooning style fits perfectly as the long drawn out notes that dip up and down make me feel like I'm falling with the song. falling in love to be specific
